Multiple Art, Random Art

Letter Based Pop-Art

Picture
This project was about doing something or someone with words. Basically, form the shape of whoever or whatever we chose from different words. But, this words had to had some meaning. For example, if doing a singer, you had to put the singer lyrics, or if doing a movie character, put things that described him/her or quotes of that character. The character had to be done in pen, and if you wanted, with multiple colors, as well as a good background. It had to end up as a cool, black and white, word based character.

I chose to do Totoro, a character from Hayao Miyazaki, one of the best cartoon directors in Japan. I chose Totoro because of what he represents. He is part racoon, part tanuki and part owl. In my opinion, an awsome character. And the move he is in is called Tonari no Totoro (or My Neighbor Totoro), that is about this forest spirit that lives in a town, basically that. But, the movie in it's essensse is fun and enternaining and I found Totoro as a really intresting and well designed character, so that's the reason I chose him. I did Totoro in a program called sumopaint.com which let me edit totoro and make him word based. Even though it seems easy to do it in a computer, it was harder than by hand because the word position was hard to make and basically it was hard to create it. It took me about 3 daily hours for about 7 days to complete him. Even though it was hard, it was fun.

Pop-Art Kermit the Frog

Picture
This project was about making a character we chose in Pop-Art style. We had to draw the character, choose the colors, and later on paint him/her. It seemed as an easy work, but it ended up being totally the contrary. Choosing the character was easy, and drawing the character was even more easy, but painting ended up being hard. The project was based on something simple, but it had to be done in a more complex scale. So this project could have seemed something easily done, but it wasn't.

I choose kermit the frog as subject for this project because I thought it was perfect for something like this. Experimenting with frog, a brilliant idea. And it ended up perfect, it was rather easy to draw and really fun to watch during it's process of being Pop-Art. The only stressing thing about all of this was painting. I didn't notice, for my bad luck, that the color yellow in this kind of paint is really hard to do. We had some guide lines below our work, for making it look better when we sketched the character, and this guidelines were my nightmare throughout this whole project. It took me more than 15 capes of the basic yellow to cover them, which took me several weeks to do. Basically, that was the biggest problem of all. Apart from that, the project was perfect, and the result was amazing.

Sketches

Picture
It isn't a project, but a whole year number of sketches I've done. All of which I have a good feeling that they came out ok. We had to make sketches all year, one for each week, and they could be of whatever we wanted them to be. Normally, people like to choose random subjects for the sketches, such as drawing kitchen stuff or a can of coke or whatever that they had in sight. We had to turn them in the moment they told us, really neat and all, for our grade, and they couldn't be THAT simple. They had at least to have some shading, or color, or something more than just a basic form or drawing. This, is what came out of my sketches.

This one is a mountain lion, or most commonly known as cougar. I choose a cougar because all of my sketches are animal based. All of them. Few of them have been based in other subject, like Alice in Wonderland, or just random things, but 90% of my sketches are animals. I used to go through the easy path of some of the animals, but then I liked it more and more, and I started to draw more complex animals, such as this cougar, or a deer. They can seem easy, but they usually take about 30-60 mins to complete one with shading and all. I like very much drawing animals because I love nature, and when I mix art and nature, I get what I like.
